We’re excited to announce BlueRock Law as a finalist in the Employer of Choice category of the 2019 Law Awards. Honestly, we aren’t surprised – we are a great place to work! We can say that with confidence because we’ve already been voted the 4th Best Place to Work in Australia (under 1000 employees).

Read on for some of the ways BlueRock Law does it better.

We put people before profit (without jeopardising client outcomes)

When it comes to law firms, we are breaking the mould. In a profession plagued by high levels of depression and anxiety, we make the wellbeing of our team our number one priority. We subscribe to Branson’s people-first culture; we trust, respect and care for each other above all other competing interests. We will not compromise our BlueRockers’ mental or physical health for profit and growth. And guess what!? It’s leading to exceptional outcomes for our clients.

So, what does a people-first workplace mean? We promote a range of initiatives to encourage both mental and physical wellbeing, such as gym memberships, healthy food options and regular team-building activities focused on fun and fitness.

We know our employees have a life outside of work (and we help them balance the two)

At BlueRock, we want you to go home and spend time with your family. At our firm, it’s not the norm to pull all-nighters or work soul-crushing hours. We want our BlueRockers to work smarter, not harder, so we strive for improved efficiencies through improved processes and technological solutions.

We appreciate that you have a life outside of work and we want to hear all about it. The bi-weekly ’huddles’ are a chance to share news from your personal life and keep everyone up to date on clients and investors. All milestones and achievements, both personal and professional, are celebrated and recognised.

We don’t just pay lip service to workplace flexibility. We want to find real solutions for working parents because investment in our people means better results for our clients. Perhaps you want a graduated return to work, to work part-time, job share, work from home or overseas, opt for an alternative start or finish time or even pursue other business-related interests: let us hear your proposal.

Plus, we’re committed to gender equality and inclusion. We embrace and value the unique contributions of people with different lifestyles and backgrounds. We don’t believe women need to make the choice between being a lawyer and a caregiver. Our team are welcome to bring their children to work during the school holidays to make use of the breakout spaces and toys. We can also organise onsite childcare, BlueRock-funded childcare and support for breastfeeding mothers.

We’re not your average corporate law firm

At BlueRock, we respect experience, celebrate success and offer promotions, but our lawyers are not consumed by the quest for the holy grail of traditional corporate frameworks – partnership. All BlueRockers have the opportunity to buy into the BlueRock business, giving them ownership of the BlueRock vision and encouraging the team to work toward aligned financial goals. We work collaboratively – there’s no need to act in self-interest or compete internally. Imagine working in a cohesive work environment where everyone has each other’s backs.

Another bonus is that partners aren’t draining profits we can reinvest to fund further growth and innovation. A move away from time-based billing means lawyers can invest in non-billable work to drive improved working practices and efficiencies that we pass onto clients. And we’re all about financial transparency – we give our community access to all financial information.

We care about our community

Here at BlueRock, we view ourselves through a social enterprise lens. We recognise the power of business to create positive change in the world. And for lawyers who want to align their work with their personal values, it’s an opportunity for the profession to reevaluate what success in business entails. Our community partners with like-minded companies and clients to support charitable causes, promote community and make environmentally responsible decisions. Our B Corp certification means that our team can rest assured that we meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental practices. We are proud that we can balance profit and purpose.

No wonder we already know there is nowhere else we’d rather be working. That said, we are honoured to make the shortlist for the 2019 Law Awards Employer of Choice. Congratulations BlueRock Law and best of luck!
